On August 26, his agent announced that the famous Swedish coach Eriksson died of pancreatic cancer at the age of 76.

Eriksson was the first foreign coach to coach England. He led England to the 2002 World Cup, the 2004 European Cup, and the 2006 World Cup, all of which were eliminated in the quarter-finals.

Official news from the England team said that they will commemorate Eriksson's life during the match against Finland at Wembley Stadium on September 10.
