UEFA official news, UEFA President Ceferin awarded the former Italian goalkeeper Buffon the 2024 UEFA President Award to pay tribute to the legendary goalkeeper.
The award is intended to recognize outstanding achievements, professionalism and outstanding personal qualities. Few goalkeepers have been able to maintain a top level for as long as Buffon, who has performed well and consistently throughout his 28-year career.
Buffon has played 176 times for the Italian national team, making him the goalkeeper with the most appearances in history, the player with the most appearances in the history of the Italian national team, and the fourth-most-capped European national team player of all time. In 2006, Buffon's career reached its peak, playing an important role in Italy's World Cup victory.
Buffon won a record 10 Serie A titles, the 1999 UEFA Europa League, six Coppa Italia titles and one Ligue 1 title during a club career that took him from Parma to Juventus and back to Parma, as well as a brief spell at Paris Saint-Germain.
The 2024 UEFA President's Award will be presented to Buffon at the 2024-25 Champions League group draw, which will take place on August 29 at the Grimaldi Forum Monaco.
