Barcelona has officially announced the signing of Szczesny. The goalkeeper talked about the reason for his comeback in an interview with the club's official media and admitted that Lewandowski played a big role.
Szczesny has signed a one-year contract with Barcelona. He first talked about his feelings after his comeback: "This is a very proud moment. I am ready to retire and I am happy with this decision. The first few days after arriving here and seeing the way people treated me made me realize how much it means to them. I am proud to be part of this big family because even though this club is big and the organization is great, we feel a family feeling, which is important to me. That's why I decided to extend my career a little bit."
Szczesny continued: "The club has a huge fan base, which is a good thing. I went to the game and saw this, and the team looked great. It's exciting and a challenge for me, and I will take it with a lot of energy and enthusiasm. I'm ready."
Barcelona moved very quickly to sign Szczesny, all thanks to Lewandowski's lobbying. Szczesny said: "He (Lewandowski) was perhaps the first person to tell me the possibility of this happening, even though I had retired. Of course there are certain conditions, because I'm not sure if I have the ability to accept new challenges. But after speaking to my family and friends, they told me that it would be very stupid if I didn't accept the offer, and I agree with them."
"Robert (Lewandowski) played a major role in my arrival because he was the first person to instill the idea in me and convince me," Szczesny concluded.
