Torpedo, Lada, Fiat and revisionism: Russian Premier League newcomer Tolyatti Akron

Togliatti is known as the "Russian Automobile Capital" or "Russian Detroit". Its original name was Stavropol on the Volga River. Stavropol means "City of the Cross". It was renamed in memory of Palmiro Togliatti, the leader of the Italian Communist Party who made outstanding contributions to the city.
